Woodlore

Poetry, paintings, and woodcarving combine to form this rich and illuminating celebration of the woodworker’s craft. Sixteen short poems describe different woods and a traditional use of each-teak for the deck of ships, oak for barrels, yellow pine for rocking horses. For each wood described, a carved and inlaid frame surrounds a painting of woodworkers engaged in their craft. Endnotes provide additional information on the tools and techniques shown in the illustrations and the reason each wood was used for a particular purpose. Woodworking tools, the trees that the woods come from, and finished objects made of wood are identified in the illustrated endpapers. Woodlore is a unique introduction to wood and woodworking.
